Abstract

The regional distribution and relative frequencies of the somatostatin-immunoreactive cells in the gastrointestinal tract of the fetus(180 days of gestation) of the Korean native goat were studied with immunohistochemical methods.
Somatostatin-immunoreactive cells were detected throughout the gastrointestinal tract and these cells were located in the mucosal glands and epithelial regions. The regional distribution and relative frequency was somewhat different to the adult Korean native goat. These cells were most predominant in the fondue but decreased along with intestinal tract. Somatostatin-immunoreactive cells in the surface epithelial regions were open typed cells which were spindle shaped cells but closed typed cells which were round onto spherical shaped cells were observed in the mucosal gland regions.
